Illegal Alien Crime Deniers: John Dickerson, CBS News, and Sen. Jeff Flake

By Ronald W. Mortensen on February 15, 2017

On February 12, John Dickerson, host of CBS's "Face the Nation", was careful to stick with the standard "fake news" reporting line that holds that the vast majority of illegal aliens are law-abiding. On two separate occasions, Dickerson, with help from Sen. Jeff Flake (R-Ariz.), wrongly asserted that, with limited exceptions, illegal aliens do not commit crimes once they are unlawfully in the United States.

Of course, the truth is that the vast majority of illegal aliens do commit a wide range of job-related felonies. Even pro-illegal alien advocates such as the ACLU, the Los Angeles Times, and the president of the California Senate have been forced to acknowledge that up to 75 percent of illegal aliens routinely commit multiple felonies in order to get jobs and that eight million of 11 million illegal aliens could be deported for crimes that they commit. Despite this, the advocates for illegal aliens still push the myth of the otherwise law-abiding illegal alien and the mainstream media perpetuates this through fake news story after fake news story.

The following is excerpted from the transcript of the interview that Dickerson conducted with Sen. Flake. (Emphases added.)

DICKERSON: Let me ask you a question about immigration. There has been an uptick in arrests following, it appears, Donald Trump's promise that he is going to crack down on criminals who are in the United States illegally.

There is also some reporting that, in addition, there is also some small number that have been detained because they are here just illegally, but haven't committed any crimes.

What is your sense of what is happening right now? Is it what you expected from President Trump?

FLAKE: Well, President Trump promised to go after those who have committed felonies, aggravated felonies. And he is doing. And I think, obviously, that is applauded. [Note: Flake is being careful here to focus on aggravated felonies in order to protect the millions of illegal aliens who commit "regular" felonies.]

...

At the same time that he does that, I hope that we can work with him on some of the other issues. Those who are in the country like the woman in Arizona who was deported simply because she used documents, fake documents to work, I don't think anybody wants to put her in the same class as aggravated felons who endanger public safety. [Note: Flake contributes to the fake news by failing to acknowledge that the woman had a felony conviction for criminal impersonation using two fraudulently obtained Social Security numbers that belonged to two different Americans.]

DICKERSON: President Trump in an interview said people like the women you — woman you described, whose only illegal act is being here illegally, shouldn't be worried by his approach.

Dickerson totally ignores the fact that Flake just said that the woman had used fake documents to work in order to stick with the script that illegal aliens do not commit crimes. Flake conveniently omits the fact that the woman had been convicted of a felony. Both Dickerson and Flake also fail to acknowledge that the woman could have been convicted of multiple other felonies such as perjury on an I-9 form, forgery, Social Security fraud, and identity theft.

So Dickerson claims that a woman unlawfully in the United States convicted of a felony did not commit any illegal act beyond being in the United States illegally even when he was just told that the woman was using false documents.

And a United States senator does everything possible to downplay the serious crimes committed by the woman and other illegal aliens. In fact, it is clear that Flake wants illegal aliens who commit identity theft and other serious crimes that do real harm to their American victims to be able to stay in the United States when he says: "I don't think anybody wants to put her in the same class as aggravated felons who endanger public safety." Maybe Flake should provide his and his family's Social Security numbers to illegal aliens since he obviously doesn't think identity theft and Social Security fraud are serious crimes.

Based on this interview, it is clear that Dickerson and Flake are illegal alien crime deniers and that they are complicit in creating a fake news narrative.
