Isn't it interesting that both Democratic and Republican establishment types express great concern about the future of the Republican Party and that they both arrive at the same conclusion — the future of the Republican Party depends on granting 11 million illegal aliens legal status and a pathway to citizenship.
In the case of Democrats and others on the left, the feigned concern is clearly self-serving and disingenuous.
Democrats know full well that Hispanics align philosophically with them and that the Democratic Party will be the big beneficiary of millions of new Hispanic voters.

Democrats also know that if comprehensive immigration reform passes with a delayed path to citizenship, it will give them a campaign issue for years to come.
Finally, Democrats know that Republicans will lose votes if they enact a pathway to citizenship because a significant portion of the party's base will either sit out future elections or vote for third party candidates.
In spite of this, the Republican establishment and its high-paid appeasement and surrender strategists choose to ignore what the Democrats know and to play right into their hands.
According to a headline in the left-leaning Guardian newspaper, Republicans will pass immigration reform or be relegated to the party of "angry old whites". But according to a CBS headline, Hispanics are overwhelmingly aligned with the Democratic Party, which is consistent with historical voting patterns in presidential elections.

Other headlines show that great promoters of Republican values and successes such as Sen. Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) and Latino Vote Matters warn House Republicans that they have to pass the Senate's amnesty bill if they are to effectively compete at the national level. Interestingly, Schumer's willing accomplice on amnesty, Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) acknowledges that even if the GOP passes comprehensive immigration reform, it will still not gain a single Hispanic vote.

A headline in the left-leaning Huffington Post highlights a poll that purports to show that if Republicans would just pass immigration reform, then at least some Latinos would be willing to possibly, maybe, perhaps consider voting for a Republican. Of course, as other headlines show, once immigration reform passes, then Hispanics will continue to align with Democrats because of their support for a large, activist government.

Headlines also show that the overpaid and underachieving Republican strategist class has embraced comprehensive immigration reform as the Holy Grail that will save the very Republican Party that they have destroyed with their appeasement and surrender strategies over the years. Like their mainstream Republican clients, these strategists are blind to the fact that Latinos, and especially the children of Latino immigrants, continue to strongly support Democrats.

Republicans need to realize that appeasement strategies and hoisting the white flag on illegal immigration is not going to win elections for them. Until they stand on core principles and support issues that appeal to the vast majority of Americans, including Latinos, they will continue to lose because, as Margaret Thatcher said: "Standing in the middle of the road is very dangerous; you get knocked down by the traffic from both sides."
