Last week I read a number of articles documenting the rise in CEO pay, including this one at Slate.com.
The fact that other people are making money by itself does not concern me. But in combination with the decline in middle class income, we see a disturbing trend. When these CEOs use their bloated incomes to depress the wages of ordinary Americans, there is a real problem.
Interestingly, there was another posting on Slate.com chastising ordinary Americans who opposed expanded guest worker programs because it would reduce their incomes.
Particularly funny is the author's statement:
Silicon Valley companies are all for the move, since it would bring in tens of thousands of ace engineers at a time when demand for top talent far exceeds the domestic supply.
The source the author linked to in support comes to the opposite conclusion.
Normally, I would not direct others to such a poorly written and poorly researched posting. The reason I do so is because it clearly states the real reason for H-1B and similar guest worker programs: The multi-million -dollar-a-year CEO caste thinks the middle class makes too much money using arguments right from the Marco Rubio/Marie Antoinette wing of the Republican party.
