'Comprehensive Immigration Reform' – Mean-Spirited and Cruel

By Ronald W. Mortensen on October 20, 2009

Here we go again. Members of Congress are gearing up to make another run at "comprehensive immigration reform" and once again they will put the interests of illegal aliens ahead of those of American citizens.

Like all previous proposals, the proponents of this renewed effort fully plan on forgiving the serious felonies that at least 75% of illegal aliens routinely commit in order to obtain jobs (document fraud, perjury on I-9 forms and/or identity theft). They also fully intend to sacrifice the millions of American men, women and children who are the very real victims of these crimes to their goal of providing a path to legalization and citizenship for tens of millions of criminal illegal aliens. This is mean-spirited and cruel.

The political elites emphasize the importance of compassion for illegal aliens and their families. At the same time, they leave millions of Americans to clean up the mess that illegal aliens have made by using their Social Security numbers. This abandonment of American citizens is mean-spirited and cruel.

In fact, just as with previous "comprehensive immigration reform" efforts, proposed legislation will be designed to protect illegal aliens from the consequences of their crimes. Congress will likely once again make it an offense punishable by a $10,000 fine for government officials to turn illegal aliens over to law enforcement when it is discovered that they have been using false documents and the Social Security numbers and other personal identifying information of American citizens. Illegal aliens will, therefore, be given amnesty from serious felonies that cause very real and serious harm to American citizens. This is mean-spirited and cruel.

Sponsors of "comprehensive immigration reform" will also once again prohibit government officials from informing American citizens that their identities have been compromised. In addition, they will prohibit the release of the names and any other information about the illegal aliens who are using the personal identifying information of American men, women, and children. Denying American families this information in order to protect criminal illegal aliens is really mean-spirited and cruel. In fact, it is despicable.

The political elites will impose token fines under the guise of earned citizenship on illegal aliens in return for amnesty, but the money collected will be used to expedite the legalization and citizenship of the illegal aliens. None of these funds will be used to help American citizens who are the victims of illegal alien identity theft and other crimes recover their good names. This is mean-spirited and cruel.

No provision will be made to help the millions of American men, women, and children who have had their credit ratings destroyed by illegal aliens who are using their Social Security numbers, but Congress will make sure that illegal aliens start out with a clean slate by giving them new, unused Social Security numbers. American citizens will, however, be required to keep their old, compromised Social Security numbers. Once again, placing the interests of illegal aliens ahead of their victims is mean-spirited and cruel.

Advocates for illegal aliens will turn a blind eye to the harm suffered by American citizens who have been denied unemployment insurance, Medicaid, college financial assistance, and other benefits because illegal aliens are using their Social Security numbers, but they will make sure that the illegal aliens are eligible for these same benefits. This too is mean-spirited and cruel.

Politicians will ignore Americans who are saddled with the arrest records of illegal aliens. They will ignore American citizens who are being pursued by the IRS for payment of taxes on income earned by illegal aliens using their Social Security numbers. These same politicians will, however, make sure that illegal aliens don't have criminal records for job-related identity theft, document fraud, and perjury and they will ensure that illegal aliens have no income tax liability for unpaid taxes. Again, this is mean-spirited and cruel.

Supporters of "comprehensive immigration reform" will also ignore the plight of American citizens who have had their medical records compromised by illegal aliens using their Social Security numbers with life-threatening consequences. They will, however, make sure that illegal aliens start down the path to legalization with clean medical records and eligibility for government-subsidized health insurance while leaving Americans at risk of inappropriate medical treatment. This is not only mean-spirited and cruel, it is criminal.

As unfair and unjust as this is, none of the political elites or other advocates of comprehensive immigration reform will lose a wink of sleep over what they are doing to honest, hard-working American men and women and their innocent children. Rather, they will take great pride in their compassion for criminal illegal aliens. This is as mean-spirited and cruel as it gets.
