If you wanted to show the public that you mean business, and you're the nation's immigration enforcement agency, maybe you'd want to show some real results. Maybe you'd keep producing real results in a sustained manner. Maybe you'd think, "Hey, if we really, truly start enforcing the immigration laws and drop this de facto amnesty stuff, the public might be convinced that we're sincerely trying to do the job we're sworn to do."
But the latest figures prove that Immigration and Customs Enforcement continues waging a snow job with smoke and mirrors, dog-and-pony shows and a P.R. offensive – rather than meaningfully trying to rid the country of illegal aliens.
Do the math: Embattled non-enforcer John Morton of ICE made a huge deal that his agency has arrested 370 illegals in 10 Midwestern states, or an average of 37 illegals per state in merely one-fifth of all the states. There are roughly 10 million illegal aliens who've forced themselves on our society. That averages 200,000 illegals per U.S. state. Arresting 37 illegals of an average state's 200,000 illegal population hardly blips on the radar.
Compared with the potential 17,000 illegals ICE is dropping charges against under its new de facto amnesty policy, the 370 represents actual loss of ground. In war terms, the illegals are winning. And the army supposedly opposing them is actually giving aid and comfort to the enemy in large-scale, tangible, intentional ways.
Here's a little math for ICE and the amnesty-fixated administration to consider. About half the states are looking to adopt their own law modeled on Arizona's S.B. 1070. By no means are all 22 of those states "red states." Several are "blue states" and "purple states," meaning in political play. If Obama wants a second term, maybe unilateral disarmament on immigration shouldn't be an option.
Abraham Lincoln said, "You can fool some of the people all of the time, and all of the people some of the time, but you cannot fool all of the people all of the time." Sounds like neither the American people nor the governments closest to the people are buying ICE's math, the white flag ICE has hoisted, or its de facto end-run amnesty policies.
