Center for Immigration Studies Internship Program

Internship applications are closed for the summer.
The Center is now accepting applications for the fall.

The Center for Immigration Studies is the nation's only think tank devoted exclusively to the research of U.S. immigration policy and is a leading voice in the drive to inform policy-makers and the public about immigration’s far-reaching impact. The Center is animated by a unique pro-immigrant, low-immigration vision that seeks fewer immigrants but a warmer welcome for those admitted.

Join the CIS team in impacting immigration public policy. Learn as you work with experienced analysts researching and analyzing issues that affect all individuals living in the United States.

Requirements

CIS internships offer a great opportunity for professional development growth. The program benefits those planning to pursue various career paths, including public policy, public relations, law, law enforcement, or international work. For many interns, this DC internship is a strategic step prior to attending graduate school or beginning a career.  College students, recent college graduates, master's students, and law students are encouraged to apply. Applicants should possess strong research, writing, computer, and communication skills, as well as a solid GPA.

Intern Program

Internships can be in-person or remote.

The CIS program offers practical experience as well as educational and skill enhancing opportunities. Interns attend congressional hearings, immigration court, and Center and other immigration-related events where they can learn from the nation’s leading policy-makers.

CIS interns work alongside think tank analysts learning about policy issues such as national security, specific visa categories, labor and fiscal costs, crime and law enforcement, and amnesty as they relate to immigration. Interns acquire immigration policy expertise and build marketable skills. In addition, interns are expected to take on administrative tasks.

Expenses

The positions include a stipend. Further, we are happy to work with your school if college credit is a possibility. We encourage applicants to view the internship as an opportunity to gain professional skills in preparation for their career or further studies.

Applications

Interns are accepted for all semesters. Applications are accepted year-round, though earlier applicants will have a particular advantage. To apply, please send a cover letter and resume as an e-mail attachments to [email protected] or [email protected].
