Reaping What We've Sown

Another Islamist terrorist has been captured in a sting operation by the FBI

. Adel Daoud is an American citizen who lives in Chicago. His immigration link is parents who came here from Egypt. The 18-year-old blipped on the FBI's radar because this Middle Eastern descendent spouted jihadist bile on Islamist Internet sites.

Daoud had read the hateful anti-American propaganda of Anwar al-Awlaki, who was the radical Islamic cleric born in the United States and killed in a drone attack in Yemen. He increasingly practiced Islam, wanting to study to become a sheik. This despite keeping up a cover as a nice kid. A neighbor told the Chicago Tribune, "It wasn't like he had made a complete turn. It was never anything like, 'We hate Americans.'" Apparently, he does hate Americans and America — very deeply! He wrote online, "Osama wasn't crazy for wanting to destroy America. This superpower killed millions of people."

Undercover FBI agents acted as terrorists who could supply explosives. Daoud identified a list of possible targets in Chicago. On Friday, he drove what he thought was a bomb-packed vehicle to outside a downtown bar, then tried to set off the explosives.

Daoud certainly hated the new homeland his parents chose. He intended to murder innocent Americans — just as other immigrant-related Islamic extremists in New York, Texas, Florida, and elsewhere have sought to do or have actually done over the past decade.

Unilaterally disarming our nation by embracing mass immigration and forfeiting our long-held tool of ideological exclusion of foreign political enemies has led to our current situation of insurgents out to destroy America. Now, a significant segment of our enemies' politics derives from their Islamic religion, which recognizes no separation between mosque and state. Such continued open borders could be America's undoing.
